The film is being made the Fox Studios Australia and the grounds of the abandoned White Bay power station, which overlooks the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Leo has been back and forth to the U.S, over the past few months as he films the movie.

The pair were pictured talking in a vintage blue car as they shot scenes for the film adaptation of the F Scott Fitzgerald novel by of the same name. Leo plays Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire who becomes obsessed with Carey’s character Daisy Buchanan, who he met while a young officer in World War I. The actor’s long-time friend Tobey Maguire was also spotted on set, looking very tired as he let out a massive yawn. He plays Nick Carraway, who is drawn into Gatsby’s lavish world.

“The Great Gatsby” is the Great American Novel, or at least the one you were assigned to read in class before skipping ahead to SparkNotes. Adaptations have been done before, but why not another one? That’s the thinking behind Baz Luhrmann’s version, a sparkling 3D blockbuster with a budget over $100 million, a cast headed by multiple Oscar nominees and a Christmas 2012 opening date that basically screams, “We are going to win so many freaking awards.”

Gatsby, who it is suggested has made his fortune through bootlegging and other black market means, appears to be enjoying a garden party with 26-year-old Carey’s flapper girl.

Tobey Maguire, 36 , who plays the novel’s narrator Nick Carraway, can be spied over the beautiful lavender flowers, too.

Sydneysiders are getting star-struck with the cast of Baz Luhrmann’s latest epic The Great Gatsby flying in to begin shooting.

Star Leonardo DiCaprio flew in yesterday, with News Limited reporting he drove straight from the airport to the set at Fox Studios before heading off to the house he’ll be staying at during the four-month shoot.

Actress Carey Mulligan has already been spotted out and about in the harbour city, with sources saying she’s been flashing her engagement ring, from Mumford & Sons star Marcus Mumford.
Gossip sites say Tobey Maguire has already arrived, while Joel Edgerton and Isla Fisher are expected any day.

Leonardo DiCaprio was spotted hopping into a new Fisker Karma vehicle today. The eco-conscious star stuck to his hybrid-loving ways in selecting the $100,000 sedan, which is capable of reaching up to 100 miles per gallon when running on battery-mode. The EcoChic edition is especially green, since it features animal-free fabrics like faux suede and rescued California wildfire hardwood. Leo’s girlfriend, Blake Lively, might have to wait a few weeks to take a road trip in his new ride, since she’s busy filming the fifth season of Gossip Girl. Hopefully the pair will find time in their schedules to celebrate Blake’s 24th birthday, which is tomorrow, before Leo heads off to begin filming The Great Gatsby.

But she’s getting the debut role of a lifetime as Jordan Baker in Baz Luhrman’s retelling of THE GREAT GATSBY. She’ll be starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Isla Fisher and Carey Mulligan. Baker is the love interest to Tobey Maguire’s Nick Carraway.

Debicki is no stranger to acting as she’s appeared in several stage productions and attending the Victorian College of the Arts. Luhrman seems to be a fan of hers, saying “It was a surprising result, but Elizabeth’s grasp of the material and her chemical connectivity to Tobey Maguire, in addition to her striking, athletic appearance, had us in a place where we were fully confident and ready to take the leap of gvingthe role of Jordan Baker to what, I guess, people would term ‘a discovery,’ we are thrilled”.
