Leonardo DiCaprio, Carrie Mae Weems, and More Art-World Heavyweights Are Throwing Their Support Behind Kamala Harris
With the U.S. presidential election just a month away, a bevy of boldface art-world names is mobilizing in support of Vice President Kamala Harris. This October, the Artists For Harris Advisory Committee is hosting a sale of artworks to support the Harris Victory Fund.
Vice President Harris has her own ties to the art world as a former board member of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Now, the artistic community is giving back with a star-studded collection of works by 167 artists, including Simone Leigh, George Condo, Jenny Holzer, Christopher Wool, Carrie Mae Weems, and Ed Ruscha. Famed actor Leonardo DiCaprio also pitched in, donating a Josh Smith from his personal collection.

New Movie has a name
Leonardo DiCaprio’s Sacramento-shot thriller has a name and a slated 2025 release date, say reports.
“The Battle of Batkan Cross” is set for an August 2025 theatrical release, according to IMDB. The film shoot took over sections of downtown Sacramento in February, including the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel on J Street and Gordon Schaber Sacramento County Courthouse, with fans hoping to catch a glimpse of director Paul Thomas Anderson, DiCaprio and crew.
The project by Anderson — known for “Licorice Pizza,” “There Will Be Blood,” “Magnolia,” and “Boogie Nights,” among others — is said to be a return to the works of novelist Thomas Pynchon. The film reportedly adapts Pynchon’s novel Vineland for the Northern California-set crime thriller. Anderson’s “Inherent Vice” (2014) starred Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin.

Devil In The White City Still Happening
Producer Stacey Sher gave Deadline the latest update along what has been the very winding road to adapting Erik Larson’s bestselling non-fiction classic, The Devil in the White City, for the screen.
The project has been in various stages of development since before Deadline revealed that Leonardo DiCaprio had bought the film rights to the book in 2010. He subsequently set it up as a feature at Paramount with Scorsese to direct and himself to star. In 2019, Hulu announced that it was developing the project as a big-budget series with DiCaprio and Scorsese exec producing. Last year, Hulu decided not to proceed with the project. ABC Signature, which had the project in Association with Paramount Television Studios, indicated at the time a continuing commitment to the project and hope of finding it a new home. That was in March 2023.

Leo spotted in El Paso
A-list actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Benicio del Toro were recently spotted in Downtown El Paso.
DiCaprio was seen filming, while del Toro visited Cafe Central, sparking excitement among El Pasoans. The sightings follow speculation fueled by a mysterious Warner Bros. truck, hinting at a possible film shoot.
A nonprofit group, Habitat for Humanity Re-store, may have an answer after a set decoration buyer and his wife visited the small business, said Nancy Gomez, its general manager.
“They bought ceiling fans, a glass trophy cabinet, a vintage box and a stove,” she said. “They also bought a bunch of hardware.”
