Mark Wahlberg Reveals He and Leonardo DiCaprio Play ‘Annual Basketball Games’ at His House
Though Mark Wahlberg and Leonardo DiCaprio had a brief feud while filming the 1995 drama The Basketball Diaries, they’ve since become good friends on the basketball court.
“Me and Leo actually hit it off. It was instant chemistry. And me and Leo actually play ball in real life,” Wahlberg, 47, reveals in the new show, Vertical Networks’ Celebrity Binge Watch, dubbed the “Carpool Karaoke” for actors where they binge-watch their entire movie career on Snapchat’s Discover platform.
“For quite some time, we’d actually have an annual basketball game at my house,” Wahlberg recalls of hanging out with 43-year-old DiCaprio.
In late July, the father of four detailed the tension between him and DiCaprio on the set of the teen drama.
“He didn’t want me for the part, and I didn’t think he was right for the part,” Wahlberg told The Hollywood Reporter. “We both had to really learn how to respect each other, and we earned it.”
Their time on the set of Basketball Diaries eventually evolved into a lasting friendship after the two actors worked out their differences.
“I had to really kinda just go out there and prove myself. Once I finally got to the point where I was able to audition and read with him, then we just both kinda looked at each other, we were like, ‘Wow!’ We were literally out that night and we became fast friends,” Wahlberg told Extra.
“We’ve talked about it,” he said of collaborating with DiCaprio, who is currently filming the Quentin Tarantino movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with Brad Pitt,
$2.995M Mill Neck property in Leonardo DiCaprio film
A $2.995 million Mill Neck property that includes an Olympic-sized equestrian riding arena was featured in the movie “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
The star of the movie, Leonardo DiCaprio had an appreciation for the secluded 6.36-acre property, says the homeowner.
“DiCaprio said, ‘I can’t believe that there are properties like this so close to New York City,’” says Joseph Scala, who owns the house with girlfriend, Maria DiLascio.
Martin Scorsese, who directed the 2013 film, told Scala that the property made him feel as if he were in Kentucky.
The centerpiece of the horse property is the riding arena, where DiCaprio filmed a scene with Jon Favreau and Rob Reiner while standing along the fence. The arena, which features crushed rubberized footing and is used as a jumper ring, is “the only one in the area,” Scala says.
It was built with “just the right amount of traction, drainage, cushion and everything to make sure the horses could perform at their best,” adds listing agent Patricia Cadavid of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty.
A 12-stall barn features mahogany woodwork, a wash stall with hot and cold water, a tack room and a hay loft. The property also includes five paddocks and a four-stall foaling barn.
“The reason I bought that property is because I’ve always loved to have horses on my property,” says Scala, who says he fully renovated the estate after purchasing it in 1992.
The house, a Colonial with five bedrooms and 4-1/2 bathrooms, was built in 1966 and renovated within the last seven years, Cadavid says. The main level includes a foyer, a living room with a wood-burning fireplace, a family room with vaulted ceilings, a kitchen with a farm sink and stainless steel appliances, and a dining room.
The upper-level master suite boasts French doors that open to a sunning deck overlooking the riding arena.
The property, which was been on and off the market since 2009, is “a horse lover’s dream property,” Cadavid says. “The barn could be used for other things, maybe a car collector’s space. But hopefully whoever buys it is a horse person because it is ideally suited for a horse person.”

Allbirds Releases Sugarcane Shoes, Secures Leonardo DiCaprio Backing
Within three short years, direct-to-consumer shoe brand Allbirds, has gained a cultlike following for its footwear made of natural materials like wool and eucalyptus, and now sugarcane can be added to that list.
On Aug. 1, the San Francisco-based company announced it had developed a new technology derived from sugarcane to replace the typical petroleum-based EVA used in shoe soles, simultaneously revealing it had secured an undisclosed investment amount from actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio.

Calling it their “biggest moment as a company,” cofounder Tim Brown said in a phone interview that it had the potential to impact the footwear business deeply, as it was the first environmentally friendly option for shoe soles, and the firm plans to make it available to the footwear industry at large.
“Part of our ethos is this constant improvement of things that are commonly used and finding better ways to make them to make less of an environmental impact and a better product. The sole was a pretty tough one to crack but we realized from my cofounders previous life working for a biotech firm you could take the petrol out.”
Called “SweetFoam,” Allbirds worked with the Brazilian firm Braskem to create the material over a two-year process. The sugarcane is grown in southern Brazil using minimal fertilizer, and is processed in facilities that are run entirely on renewable power, amounting to the world’s first carbon negative EVA.
Referring to the new funding from DiCaprio, Brown said, “it’s a big endorsement that we’re very proud of.”
DiCaprio, who has driven socially conscious film projects including “Before the Flood” and “Cowspiracy,” said in a statement: “Creating sustainable consumer products requires a deep commitment from brands that understand the role they have in helping solve our environmental crisis.” He added that he was “proud” to join as an investor.
The first product Allbirds has incorporated SweetFoam into is a new line of flip-flops retailing at $35 a pair, but promised it would extend the material to across its other products.
Allbirds first launched with their wool runner sneaker in March 2016, quickly attaining popularity among Bay Area’s tech professionals. While the firm declined to disclose exact numbers, it said that in its first two years of business — meaning just with its wool product line — it has sold in excess of one million pairs of shoes. It has been profitable since launch, the company added.
The firm has since grown to 130 employees, taking on a recent investment from basketball player Andre Iguodala of the Golden State Warriors, and welcoming Warby Parker chief executive officer Neil Blumenthal as board adviser.
The brand operates across four countries: the U.S., New Zealand, Australia and Canada and has opened up pop-up stores in New York, Toronto and San Francisco. They expect to roll out more in the near future. Brown stayed mum on what other cities he is looking at although said they are “the usual suspects” and assured that “absolutely retail is part of our plans.”
Leonardo DiCaprio Invests in Footwear Brand Allbirds: ‘I Am Proud to Join the Company’
Leonardo DiCaprio takes his footwear choices very seriously — so much so that he just invested his money in one of his favorite sneaker brands.
The environmentally conscious actor has teamed up with sustainable footwear company Allbirds, news that comes hot on the heels of the brand’s latest launch: a sustainable, eco-friendly sole unveiled on the label’s debut flip-flop.
“Creating sustainable consumer products requires a deep commitment from brands that understand the role they have in helping solve our environmental crisis,” DiCaprio said in an exclusive statement. “Allbirds is on the forefront of developing new materials that will serve as a model for the footwear industry. This kind of innovation is crucial for creating a more sustainable future. I am proud to join the company as an investor.”
Leonardo DiCaprio wears DODGY WIG in new Once Upon A Time In Hollywood set photos
Quentin Tarantino is Writing His Next Film from The Chateau Marmont. The Oscar-winning actor is currently shooting Tarantino’s ninth film in Los Angeles.
Set in 1969, Leo plays Rick Dalton, a Western TV star opposite Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth, his longtime stunt double. Recent set photos have seen LA streets turned into their period setting, but now Leo has been snapped sporting a wig and side burns while on a lunch break.
The 43-year-old was caught holding a sandwich and wearing a white T-shirt and jeans by some trailers.
Interestingly the hair-do and stick-on side burns are different to his character Rick’s look in the first official photograph with Brad’s Cliff.
And also not the same as a recent set photo with Tarantino, sporting his usual trimmer cut.
In comparison the wig and sideburns are much more in tune with the late 1960s/early 1970s style.
Since he’s playing an older actor coming to terms with the new Hollywood in 1969, perhaps this is his character’s attempt to fit in.
He told the Hollywood Reporter: “[It’s] a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood.
“The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a Western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt).”
“Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognise anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbour…Sharon Tate.”
Margot Robbie has been asked by Tarantino to play the late actress, who was murdered while pregnant by the Manson family.
The director added: ““I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old.
“I’m very excited to tell this story of an LA and a Hollywood that don’t exist anymore. And I couldn’t be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff.”
Once Upon A Time in Hollywood will be released in UK cinemas on July 26, 2019.
