Chapter 30
The exam confirmed; Rose was pregnant. Her worse nightmare was now becoming reality.
“Jack must not know about this baby…he left me for Alicia because she was pregnant…he will for sure make the same for her now that I am pregnant…” she said to Linda
“Well that would be great! She would finally pay for taking him from you…” Linda said
“Well…technically…I first took him from her…”
“Whatever…and he only left you for her because you make him do that…because you left him first…Rose, that guy loves you, really…it’s been 10 years and he still looks at you with the same loving eyes…and I know you feel the same for him…and I also know it’s about time for you to make a decision on your life…but the right one…he must know about this child…”
“How am I gonna tell him? I just can’t get there are say: hi Jack you know I am pregnant…I can’t Linda…”
“Okay…then just wait for the right moment…”
“I’m gonna go to work now…actually I gotta see his wife now…am sending her home today…”
“And the little girl?”
“Unfortunately I will have to keep her here at least for more a couple of days…she is recovering very fast but I’d rather have her under my eye so I can be sure that she is really fine…”
“Okay…so go see Mrs Dawson…I gotta comeback to work too…”
Linda walked away and Rose returned to work. She first took Alicia’s blood tests and exams to be sure she could go home. But she got a surprise…a very unpleasant one.
Alicia was sited on the bed reading a magazine. Rose entered her room and closed the door.
“Hi…” Rose said
“Hi…” Alicia said
“You can go home today…I have the results of your exams…” Rose said
“Finally a good new…and Stella?”
“She’ll have to stay…at least for one or two days more…Listen Alicia…I have something to tell you…”
“Alright…”
“You are pregnant…”
“What?”
“That’s what your blood tests say…”
“Are you sure?”
“100% percent…you didn’t knew?”
“No…I…could never imagine…”
“Well…congratulations…”
“Have you talked about this to anyone else?”
“Excuse me?”
“You know what I mean…have you told Jack?”
“No…I just found it out now…”
“Rose…please…I am beginning you…nobody must know about this…”
“But…I don’t understand…”
“I am getting a divorce…and this baby can be my salvation…”
In that moment Rose fainted. Alicia stood up and quickly helped her. She called a nurse and Rose was taken to a room.
“Rose…Rose…can you hear me?” a voice called
Rose opened her eyes slowly. She couldn’t see very well.
“Dra…can you hear me?” another voice said
“Yes…am fine…what happened?” Rose asked
“You fainted…”
“I am a bit tired, that’s all…but I will be okay…” Rose said
Meanwhile Alicia was packing her things. Jack arrived to take her home.
“Are you ready?”
“Yes…just let me check that I don’t forget anything here…”
“We can go or you have to sign anything else? It was Rose that…”
“Yes…she said I can go…”
“Do you know if she’s around? I mean I would like to talk to her about Stella…”
“Yes but I don’t think you can talk to her…she wasn’t feeling very good…even fainted here…”
“What? Is she okay? What’s the problem?”
“At least you could pretend…I’m still your wife…”
“I am sorry…”
“I don’t know…they’ve taken her…”
“Do you mind if I go check if she’s okay?”
“Yes I do…I didn’t saw you that concerned with me when I had the accident…”
“She’s taking care of our daughter…if she’s not okay who will take care of Stella?”
“Okay…go on…I’ll finish packing my things…”
Jack searched for Rose’s room. A nurse indicated him the way. When he entered, Rose was alone, reading her file.
“Rose…”
“Jack!”
“Are you okay? What happened to you?”
“Nothing…I just felt a bit sick…I’ve been working too much maybe…I am going back to work now…am fine…”
“No…if the doctors brought you here is because you must stay here…”
“No Jack, really…I am okay now…”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I am okay…like I said it was just a sickness…nothing serious…”
“Look at you…taking care of other people’s health but don’t take care of yours…” Jack said sating on the bed with her
“Yep…that’s me…” Rose said with a laugh
“I am worried with you…” Jack said holding her hand
Alicia entered suddenly. Jack left Rose’s hand quickly.
“I am sorry…I was looking for you Jack…I am ready to go…” Alicia said
“Yes…of course…” Jack said
“Get well soon…” Alicia said to Rose faking a smile
“Thank you…” Rose said replying the fake smile
“I’ll call you…” Jack whispered to Rose
“Alright…” Rose nodded
