Leonardo DiCaprio delivered an impassioned speech calling for bold action to safeguard the planet, as he accepted the World Economic Forum’s 2016 Crystal Award. Chinese actress Yao Chen was also honored for raising awareness of the refugee crisis.

DiCaprio was recognized as a longtime, passionate advocate for environmental sustainability—both through his Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which aims to promote the health and well-being of people around the planet, and for his work as a U.N. messenger of peace for climate change.

In his acceptance speech, DiCaprio called for a committed move away from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

“We simply cannot afford to let the corporate greed of the coal, oil, and gas industries to determine the future of humanity. Our planet cannot be saved unless we leave fossil fuels in the ground where they belong,” said DiCaprio.

He also called for protection of the planet’s last natural ecosystems.
