Chapter 4
Françoise disappears. Everyone is looking under water searching. Suddenly, out of no where something comes up it's her plastic bag. They keep on looking, but come up with nothing. Richard is suddenly dragged down. He screams. When he surfaces he finds out it was Françoise.
Everyone laughs except for Richard.
Very funny. You Europeans have such a playful sense of humor no wonder your comedy has conquered the world. Richard says mad.
What about Moleire? Etienne asks.
Who? Ah Fuck off. Richard replies.
He continues swimming without turning around. Shanna feels guilty about laughing, but it was funny.
One by one they collapse on the beach they are exhausted. Eventually, they get up and start to walk they pass through some dense foliage as they scramble up a steep slope. When they reach the top Etienne notices the hundreds of dope plants.
After climbing the hill Richard takes out his bottle of water and takes a sip. Shanna, Françoise and Etienne head through the dope field. Richard wanders a short distance away. A little monkey catches his eye. He looks at it then sees a metal collar attached with a string to a man with an automatic rifle. He panics and disappears before the guard is awakened by the monkey's alert. The farmer wakes and notices the monkey has alerted him to something he stands up and sees his friends on the other side of the field. He says something and waves to them.
Meanwhile, Richard, Françoise, Etienne and Shanna lie still on the ground hiding from the farmers. They lie there listening to the sounds around them. Richard and Etienne decided that the girls would panic so their first instinct was to cover their mouths. They start to crawl on the ground before the guards notice they're there. Richard was at the head of the line so he stops and notices the money is coming toward him and the only weapon he had at the moment was his water bottle. He reaches for it and squirts it in the monkey's direction the monkey gets frightened and moves away. Richard is now relieved. This time without anymore interruptions they make their way through the field without being seen.
