Chapter 15
Rose was completely lost and scared. Jack’s proposal had been a big surprise for her, and for more she wanted to accepted, she knew the consequences. Or she would tell him the truth or he would find it out soon or later, it was just a matter of time. That day he invited her to sleep in his house and she wanted to accept, but first she needed to tell him all the truth about her life.
Jack took her to dinner out. Mia stayed with Linda as always. During the whole way to the restaurant Rose was very quiet and thoughtful.
“Are you okay?” Jack asked
“Yeah I’m fine…” she answered with a fake smile
“Really? It’s not what it looks…” he said back
They arrived the restaurant. Jack stopped the car and they entered. The waiter took their orders and then walked away. Jack was looking at the menu, Rose was looking at him.
“I want to go live with you…” she said
He quickly moved his eyes from the menu to hers and then smiled of happiness.
“But first I wanna tell you something…” she continued
“Alright…” he said
“Well…I don’t know where to start…” she begun
“Maybe in the beginning…” he said
“You already know the beginning…I just gotta tell you the middle and hope it doesn’t end bad…” she said
“Can you just say it?” he said
“Okay…do you remember me telling you that Mia’s father left me, don’t you?” she asked
“Yes…but what does it…” he answered
“No…let me finish…” she interrupted him “He didn’t…I left him…” she continued
“You left him…” Jack said
“Yes…actually I escaped from him…” she said
“Rose what are you trying to say?” he asked staring to be desperate
“I’m trying to say that I’m married to Mia’s father, Cal, and that I left him when she was born…” she said finally
“You’re married?” Jack asked
“Yes…” she answered
“But…what…no…I…Rose, is this a joke?” he asked
“No…I hope it was but it’s not…” she said
“You said he left you pregnant…and now you say the guy married you?” Jack asked her furious
“I did…my father forced me into this wedding…I didn’t knew what was behind it…he and Cal had an arrangement…” she said crying
“Arrangement?”
“Yes…the deal was Cal would marry me and give his name to the baby…then my father would give him the child because he said I was too young to take care of a baby and that it would ruin my life…of course I only knew that after the marriage…when Mia was born…I was in the hospital and I heard a conversation between my parents…my mother had always been against it so she helped me to escape…I was 15 and Cal 20…it would be too easy for him to take the baby from me…” Rose said in tears
“Rose I…really don’t know what to say…” Jack said now feeling sorry for her
“You don’t have to say anything…I thought a lot if I should or not tell you…and I realized I had to…you can’t waste your time and life with me…I will spend all my life hidden from my so called husband…because I won’t let him or anyone else take my daughter from me…no one…I’d rather die than loose her…”
“Rose I’m so sorry…if I knew I wouldn’t be asking this to you…”
“Don’t be…but if you want me it has to be this way…”
“Of course I want you…it doesn’t matter if you’re married or not…we’ll find a way to get your divorce…you’re talking to a future lawyer, remember?”
“Only you to make me laugh in this situation…”
