Chapter 6
Rose arrived from work very tired. It was her first week back at work after a month she had something else that reminded her of Jack. She sat on her bed and began to think. She looked over at Jimmy and smiled as he was asleep. He looked just like Jack, because he was his son. Rose couldn’t believe it when they told her she was pregnant the last time she went to visit Jack and she fainted. She couldn’t believe that the car accident had not affected the baby.
She really thought Jimmy was a miracle. She had named him Jim after her dad and his middle was Jack. Rhonda would take care of him while Rose worked. He was now a month old and everyday he would look like Jack even more. He had sandy blond hair and had the bluest eyes, blue as the ocean. Every time he smiled it made Rose want to cry. She really tried her best to forget about Jack, but Jimmy reminded her so much of Jack. She kissed him and laid next to him.
“If you only you knew Jack. If you only knew the gift you gave me. I hope you are doing well wherever you are. I really miss you and I think I will never forget you. I will always love you.” She said.
She couldn’t go to sleep, so she got up and got a picture out of her nightstand. It was a picture of her and Jack, it was somewhat torn and blurry from her crying. She kissed it and closed her eyes remembering that day.
“This is all I have left of our love Jack, pictures and memories.” She said and kissed it again. She laid the picture down and fell back on the bed. She looked up at the ceiling. She slowly closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Months passed Jack decided to go the park. Something he had not done in months. He sat down on the same brown bench he always did sit in. He took his drawing book with him, so he could draw. He saw a little baby sitting down on a blanket playing with a ball. Jack thought he looked so adorable with his little blue hat and blue basketball jersey. Jack decided to draw him.
He saw a woman sit next to him, but he didn’t pay much attention to her, because he was drawing him. He thought he looked so familiar. Then he saw a dog running towards him. Jack saw the dog coming and put his drawing down. The dog started to lick his foot and make a sort of crying noise. Jack tried to push him away, but the dog wouldn’t go away. He to looked familiar and the name Ted suddenly came to Jack’s head.
“Hey doggy, you don’t bite do you?” Jack asked messaging his funny looking ears. The dog licked his hand Jack smiled at it; he was on his knees now playing with the dog.
“Ted! Come on, leave that man alone. I’m sorry sir; he usually isn’t nice to strangers…” Rose didn’t finish what she was saying when Jack looked up at her. She was in complete shock, he was as well. Jack slowly stood up staring at her; he noticed she was holding the baby he was drawing. They were both in shock now, Jack just stared at her eyes and noticed they looked like the ones he always draws and they were starting to water. Rose looked at him in disbelief. She had tried her best to forget about him and now there he was, in front of her. Rose stated to walk back, Jack didn’t know what to say or do.
“I have… I have to go. I’m… sorry about my dog.” She said and slowly started to walk away.
“Uhh… wait. Rose please wait. I need to talk to you. Please wait.” Jack cried.
“You remember my name? Why does that surprise me? We have nothing to talk about.” She said and slowly started to walk away with Jimmy in her arms and Ted following her. She was crying.
Jack felt his heart ache, something told him to stop her. He grabbed her arm.
“Please, just let…”
“What Jack!? What do you want? What do you want from me?” she cried.
“I… I don’t know!!” He said putting his hands on his head and tears falling from his eyes.
“It’s just been to long since I have seen you. I… don’t think I’ll get a chance to tell you this if you leave. Rose I… have… ever since you left me, all I do is think of you. It might make you mad that I still don’t remember much. But can you believe I remembered Ted’s name. I have been remembering things lately. Small, maybe not important things, but I remember!” Jack said.
“Oh great, you remember the dog, but you don’t remember me! Isn’t that just great?! Do you even remember why this park was so special to us?! Rose yelled and started to walk again when she saw his face of confusion.
“Rose you are being very unfair. It wasn’t my fault this happened to me!” he said following her.
“Oh so it’s my fault?” she yelled.
“No, of course not! But I wish you could have stayed with me! I really do.”
“Why? You didn’t remember me and you still don’t! You never told me you loved me before and you looked so happy in Marissa’s company after the accident. You told me you didn’t remember our love. You don’t know what that did to me Jack! I couldn’t stay around.” she said.
“I’m sorry; does it help to know that I don’t speak to Marissa anymore?”
“I could really care less now. I have moved on Jack, I plan to stay with the life I have now. Why don’t you do the same? If you ever remember what we had, just know it was great and I always remember that, but it’s over now. We can’t go back, it would just be to painful.” She said wiping some tears from her eyes.
Jack stared at her with watery eyes. He didn’t know why his heart was calling him, begging him to convince her to help him remember, to help him remember her touch and her kisses. Rose looked at him with angry eyes, they had stopped walking. He looked at the baby and smiled. The baby seemed to touch Jack’s heart.
“Who’s his daddy?” Jack asked grabbing his tiny hand. Rose thought of telling him, but realized it would be a mistake.
“Let’s just say he is proof that I have moved on.” She said and walked away.
Jack saw her leave and felt like he was drowning and couldn’t breathe. He walked back to his apartment lonely and in pain.
“Why god? Why can’t I remember? Please help me remember. I feel something inside me, something so painful. I just want to know what I lost! I know I lost Rose. She forgot about me, she moved on, while I was trying to remember her, while all I thought about was her!” Jack cried. He sat in the front steps of his apartment building. He put his head on his knees and cried. He was crying, when all of a sudden he heard something that sounded familiar. It was a song playing on a stereo in a store near by.
“You're
beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
and I don't know what to do,
'Cause Ill never be with you.”
Jack looked up and started to have his headache again.
“Yes, she caught my eye,
as I walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
Flying high,
And I don't think that I'll see her
again,
But we shared a moment that will last
till the end.”
“Where have I heard that song? Why do I know the words to it and I don’t even remember hearing it before? Jack started to sing along to it.
“You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful it's true
I saw your face in a crowded place,
and I don't know what to do,
'Cause Ill never be with you.”
He singed.
Jack shook his head. It was aching horribly. “You are beautiful Rose.” He said and walked inside his apartment. He decided to go to the roof, something he had not done in a year. He sat on the roof and looked out to the city lights. He felt so lonely, he felt like he needed someone to watch the lights with. “Hmmm…You’re beautiful… that dang song is still in my head.” He said and in that moment Rose’s image came to his head. He seemed to remember something. “I brought her up here! Yes, I see it now! I brought her up here, that picture she showed me in the hospital!! It was here!”
