Leonardo DiCaprio on strict diet for new film role

The 34 year-old actor, who is currently shooting Christopher Nolan’s new movie ‘Inception’ alongside Ellen Page, will have to lose a significant amount of weight for a scene at the end of the shoot.

A film insider said: “There’s an action scene coming up at the end of the year in which Leonardo needs to appear emaciated, so the pressure is on. Leo isn’t the kind of guy who can just lose a radical amount of weight. He’s following a strict diet and is embarking on a rigorous workout regime.

“Leo’s a pretty determined kind of guy, when he sets his mind to things he always achieves them. Though this is going to be hard for him, you can guarantee he’ll succeed.

Di Caprio is the latest in a string of actors who have put their bodies through a severe regime to lose weight for a role. Most recently, Christian Bale was pictured looking emaciated on the set of new film ‘The Fighter”, while Hilary Swank embarked on a weight gaining and muscle building workout plan before shooting ‘Million Dollar Baby’, the film which earned her an Oscar.

Leonardo DiCaprio in Shutter Island and Inception

Posted By melissa on August 31st, 2009

shutter-island-posterIt is a widely known fact that certain directors favor certain actors in their movies. Steven Spielberg likes Tom Cruise. Ridley Scott likes Russell Crowe. And now, after viewing the trailer for his new movie Shutter Island, it becomes once again apparent that Martin Scorsese really likes Leonardo DiCaprio.

DiCaprio has starred in three Scorsese films: Gangs of New York, The Aviator, and the award-winning The Departed. His growth from the mere teen-heartthrob status he enjoyed after his breakout role in Titanic seems to have been spurred along by his collaboration with the legendary director. And while there are several 14-year-old girls who most likely disagree that DiCaprio is more than just a heartthrob, there is a steadily-rising number of fans and movie critics who agree that his acting career is heading through the roof. It’s quite obvious that he will be making movies for a long time, potentially earning him the reputation enjoyed by such legends like Pacino or DeNiro.

DiCaprio, 34, has two films lined up in the pipe. Shutter Island is based on the novel by Dennis Lahane and is about two US Marshalls on the trail of an escaped inmate from an island-based mental hospital where the staff appear to be just as crazy as the patients. Sounds like a good way to spend a weekend. Unfortunately, it was announced just a few days ago that Shutter Island’s release date would be pushed to February so Paramount Pictures could better support Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones and Jason Reitman’s new comedy Up in the Air. It would appear that Scorsese and DiCaprio’s latest Oscar-grab might have to wait until next year.

The second film currently in production starring DiCaprio is the much-talked-about Inception, directed by The Dark Knight helmsman Christopher Nolan. Check out the teaser-trailer here. Warner Brothers has described the film as a “sci-fi action film set within the architecture of the mind.” Trippy. This would make sense, though. Before his work with Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader, Nolan directed the cult-classic, mind-blowing Memento, starring Guy Pierce. If you haven’t seen that movie, I highly recommend it. But try to keep an open mind, and for God’s sake, pay attention.

And visiting DiCaprio’s IMDB page, we can see that he has one more Scorsese film lined up. First he played Howard Hughes in The Aviator, and now he’s playing the Rough Rider himself in The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt. I can certainly see DiCaprio capturing San Juan Hill with a bunch of American warriors, can’t you?

If you care to educate yourself on DiCaprio movies in preparation for Shutter Island (come on, February isn’t that far away), may I recommend the following: Blood Diamond, The Departed, and Catch Me If You Can. Those are the three best post-Titanic DiCaprio movies.

Now DiCaprio is Developing ‘Little Red Riding Hood’

Posted By melissa on August 18th, 2009

Leonardo DiCaprio already has a whopping 23 projects in development — between acting and producing. Now we can make it 24. On the heels of news that DiCaprio is stilling visiting The Twilight Zone, Variety reports that his Appian Way company is gearing up to tackle the story of Little Red Riding Hood with the help of Orphan scribe David Leslie Johnson.

Seeing that Johnson’s lone feature film is a horror, are we finally going to get a true Riding Hood tale, like I blogged about all the way back in 2007? It would seem so. Unfortunately, it won’t be a straight adaptation, but rather a “Gothic reimagining.” I’m sure it can be all kinds of cool, although the tale doesn’t really need to be reimagined. The original stories bring to life a myriad of creepy things through its many versions. There’s a werewolf dining on grandma’s blood, and demanding Little Red de-robe and come to bed with him, a hunter who cuts out the girl and her grandmother, and even a grandma meat pie.

There are no plans for Leonardo to take on a role himself, so we won’t see him getting wolfy in any way — although that’d be a great way to keep things fresh. Whoever stars, the bigger question is who will direct this gothic tale?

Shirtless Leonardo Strips Down For His Ibiza Party Girls

Leonardo DiCaprio let it all hang out as he hit the waves in Ibiza, Spain with friends yesterday. He mingled with his female-filled group and showed off his body which earned him a place on our hot new shirtless men bracket — do you think Leo should go on to the next round? Leonardo never has a hard time surrounding himself by hot women, especially now that his ex Bar is making headlines with a new man friend. The actor has an eye for the supermodels, but for now he’s swimming solo though he has a gaggle of ladies waiting for him on the shore.

Leonardo DiCaprio: Notting Hill Hottie

Posted By melissa on August 18th, 2009

Leonardo DiCaprio goes for a bicycle ride with a few friends around London’s Notting Hill on Wednesday (July 29).

The 34-year-old newly single actor, who recently split with supermodel Bar Refaeli, supposedly offered a drink to a lady at the Whisky Mist bar in Mayfair last night after a little mishap.

Kate Duckhouse told the London Evening Standard newspaper, “He was coming out of the VIP area but it was really busy. As he was walking through he elbowed his way past and caught me in the chest. I know he didn’t mean it but it really hurt and I would have gone head over heels if I hadn’t been caught. ‘I said: ‘Who do you think you are?’ he said ’sorry’ and I replied: ‘You will be.’”

Leonardo DiCaprio Takes on ‘Brave New World’

Posted By melissa on August 18th, 2009

Movie-maker Ridley Scott is reportedly working with Leonardo DiCaprio to bring Aldous Huxley’s futuristic novel Brave New World to the big screen.

DiCaprio will produce and possibly star in the film, while Scott will also produce with an eye to direct, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

DiCaprio would most likely play the main character of the book, lower-caste member Bernard, THR reports. Set in the future, Brave New World is about a seemingly perfect society where family is outlawed and each citizen’s role is defined by what caste they fall under.

Leonardo DiCaprio Goes Bravely to the Beach

Ash’s dash with Leo lookalike

Posted By melissa on July 31st, 2009

PUSSYCAT DOLLS babe ASHLEY ROBERTS seems to have a penchant for blokes hell bent on hiding their faces.

Fresh from pulling Bizarre Shagger Of The Year nominee LEONARDO DiCAPRIO, the blonde singer hit London last night with an equally camera-shy fella.

And Ashley herself seems to have caught the bug, clutching to her man pal with a concealing arm positioned across her face.

Though she quickly learned an important lesson on the perils of blocking one’s vision when her Louboutin heel came flying off as she stumbled outside Jalouse nightclub.

Meanwhile, coy Leo – who met Ashley last Sunday at a polo event in Surrey – surprised onlookers when he embarked on a bike ride across West London before stopping off for a burger.

The ever-present baseball cap and sunglasses remained but he didn’t once bow his head to block his face as he gorged on his greasy lunch.

Take it easy now Leo, you don’t want a Titanic belly.

DiCaprio’s green town

Posted By melissa on July 31st, 2009

Remember when a massive tornado leveled the Kansas town of Greensburg? The calamitous weather event gave green celeb extraordinaire Leonardo DiCaprio an opportunity to act on an idea he’d been floating: rebuilding an entire town according to environmental ideals. The name Greensburg was just gravy.

The town residents themselves are spearheading the project, and DiCaprio is documenting the reconstruction on Planet Green TV (owned by Discovery Channel, which also owns Treehugger). The series, now in its second season, is also called Greensburg…who could resist?

As the show gains popularity, Greensburg, Kansas, is finding itself a tourist destination, with people coming from as far away as Australia to see what could be the wave of the future.

Interested in seeing for yourself? Find tourist information on the town’s website. If you don’t have cable, you can also find the show on Netflix.
