DiCaprio on Inception

Posted By Taly on March 20th, 2010

Leonardo DiCaprio has been teasing us about Christopher Nolan’s latest offering, Inception.

Leo stars along side Oscar-winner Marion Cottilard and Ellen Page in the complex thriller that looks set to enthral and confuse audiences in equal measure.

“Christopher Nolan has been able to take highly complex jigsaw puzzles in a narrative and put them together in a way that we could have never foreseen” he said.

“When you look at a film like Memento, I don’t know how a filmmaker is able to pull a narrative like that off.”

Inception will centre on a pioneering technology, which allows people enter the minds of others.

Dicaprio plays Cobb, an expert on the new technology and very much at the centre of things, although Nolan has stressed that Inception is an ensemble film, describing it as an action-adventure which “spans the globe”.

Further than this, the trail goes cold. The Dark Knight helmer has been playing his cards very close to his chest in terms of plotlines.

“This is a plot-structure that’s working on multiple layers simultaneously.” Leo adds. Cryptic bastard.

Guess we will have to wait till July 16th to learn just what these multiple layers are, and if any of them make a bit of sense.

Could Inception be Nolan’s best film? Or wish he’d just get on with Batman 3? Leave a comment!

Leonardo DiCaprio Discusses Birthday of Luxury Watch Company Tag Heuer

Posted By Taly on March 20th, 2010

TAG Heuer Celebrates 150th Anniversary With Event in Basel Honoring Environmental Activist, Actor Leonardo DiCaprio

Luxury watch brand TAG Heuer today kicked off a celebration if its 150th anniversary at an invitation-only event for more than 600 guests, honoring actor and climate change activist Leonardo DiCaprio for his dedication to saving the environment. DiCaprio has an ongoing partnership with the company that benefits the NRDC and Green Cross International.

The evening – dedicated to the pioneering spirit of innovation – also served as the launch for the Odyssey of Pioneers – a unique travelling roadshow that will showcase TAG Heuer’s finest timepieces of past, present and future in 15 cities, between March and October 2010.

As an Olympic flame, the tour will be lead by the new TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster, an exclusive model introduced by electric carmaker Tesla Motors at the Geneva Motor Show in early March 2010. This one-of-a-kind collector’s car incorporates the defining TAG Heuer avant-garde design elements, and celebrates the core values of both brands: innovation, precision, prestige and performance.

Starting in Basel, “The Odyssey of Pioneers” will be the first round-the-world tour by a zero-emission GT car: 37,000 km/24,000 miles; six-months; 15 stops; 18 watches on show, one record to be scored.

Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of Tesla Motors, was at the wheel of the new vehicle when it made its grand entry on stage. “The engineers of both brands have worked hand-in-hand, convinced that performance-driven technology – whether on the wrist or on the road – must be part of any sustainable development,” Musk said.

The night also served as the premiere of the Grand Carrera Pendulum, a 2010 concept watch that turns an immutable principle of mechanical watchmaking on its head – it is the first movement without a hairspring. Jean-Christophe Babin, president and CEO of TAG Heuer, explained how it works : “In the regulation system, we simply replaced the traditional hairspring with magnetic fields. TAG Heuer invented the oscillating pinion in 1887; the Mikrograph, the first counter that was accurate to a 100th of a second; and the V4, with its belt-driven transmission system. Now, we are introducing another major innovation, and another example of the pioneering spirit that has imbued us for a century and a half.”

“Mastering time, this has been our challenge since 1860,” said TAG Heuer Honorary Chairman Jack Heuer as he opened the celebration.

In his remarks, Leonardo DiCaprio – wearing the new Carrera 1887 – discussed his pride in being an ambassador for the company : “I am excited to be here to celebrate TAG’s 150th birthday,” said DiCaprio. “I am proud to be associated with a company that not only has a rich and storied history, but also understand the importance of doing good in the world. Our partnership, which enables people to buy a quality timepiece and help save the planet at the same time, is a model I hope other brands will follow.”

At dawn on Friday, April 19, the TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster left Basel to carry out its task of taking 150 years of heritage around the world and write a new page in this wonderful story.

TAG Watches loves Leo Dicaprio (and they’re not the only ones!)

Posted By Marcie on March 18th, 2010

I have always adored Leo Dicaprio. Ever since he stood at the prow of the Titanic and yelled “I’m the king of the world!”, ever since he gave Kate Winslet (a.k.a. Rose DeWitt Bukater) the “door” to float on, even though he knew he would drown in the icy waters, I’ve been hooked. What a guy! I know this was just his character in a movie, but it was the movie that put Leo on the map. The timeless romance of that film made a real impression on me, as well as many other women my age, and we all love that part when she jumps off the lifeboat and certain safety to brave the icy waters by his side. I’d jump off any vehicle for him, that’s for sure.

When I heard Leo was the new spokesperson, or “brand ambassador”, for TAG watches, I looked forward to seeing his face on billboards and in my favorite periodicals. If they did a commercial, I might just melt. But knowing about Leonardo Dicaprio’s involvement in environmental and ecological issues, and his usual resistance to back purely commercial ventures, I figured he must be using this spotlight as a way to push for support of support of these initiatives. Well, I was right! He is using the royalties from his ambassadorship for TAG watches, not for profit, but to further his favorite cause: reducing the effects that humans are having on the planet. Not only does Dicaprio plan on donating all of his royalties from the TAG watches contract, he is also adding millions of his own money to the pot.

Now, before you think this is just another celeb looking for a photo-op, Leo doesn’t just talk the talk, he walks the walk, too. He drives a hybrid, (a Toyota Prius, just like mine!) heats and cools his home with solar power, flies on commercial planes, and also co-produced / co-wrote “The 11th Hour” documentary about the world’s fragile ecosystem. He’s been donating to funds across the world, and is involved in trying to get more nations to sign onto the emissions-regulating Kyoto Treaty.

Hey, maybe it’s time for TAG watches to roll-out a line of solar watches! If they do, look for Leo to be their chief promoter. I’d buy that in a wind-powered minute: something supported by Leo, powered by the sun, and made by a watch company that makes smashing timepieces!

Now that Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes have announced their separation and impending divorce, the tabloids are in a frenzy to romantically link them to fellow celebrities that both have worked with on more than one occasion. Leonardo DiCaprio ‘helping Kate Winslet deal with split’

Kate Winslet supported by Leonardo

Posted By Taly on March 18th, 2010

Kate Winslet has reportedly turned to her ‘Revolutionary Road’ co-star Leonardo DiCaprio for support following the breakdown of her marriage to director Sam Mendes.

Kate Winslet is being supported through her marriage break-up by Leonardo DiCaprio.

The actress turned to her ‘Titanic’ co-star when problems started to surface in her relationship with director Sam Mendes as the trio worked together on 2008 movie ‘Revolutionary Road’ and she is said to be relying on his support to get through this difficult time.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Leonardo and Kate have been like brother and sister since they starred in ‘Titanic’ together.

“And since Kate’s marriage problems started, around the time they were filming ‘Revolutionary Road’, they have got closer again. Kate feels like she can tell Leonardo anything.

“They were thrust into stardom together and were the only people who knew what the other was going through. He’s been a rock for her.”

While Kate – who is currently holidaying in Mexico with her two children, six-year-old son Joe and Mia, her nine-year-old daughter from her marriage to Jim Threapleton – has a close friendship with Leonardo, Sam’s bond with actress Rebecca Hall, 27, was reportedly the cause of many of their rows.

The director first met Rebecca in 2006 on the set of movie ‘Starter For 10′ – who he acted as executive producer on – and worked on two theatre productions, ‘A Winter’s Tale’ and ‘The Cherry Orchard’, in New York and London as part of his Bridge Project theatre company last summer.

A source said: “Sam is a huge admirer of Rebecca’s work. He really worked well with her. There’s no suggestion of anything untoward but undoubtedly the friendship didn’t help mend their struggling relationship.”

It has also been claimed the end of their six-year marriage came about after a row over conflicting work schedules, with 44-year-old Sam lined up to direct the new James Bond film in London and Kate, 34, planning to star in a US TV comedy show.

The source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Sam raised several questions over whether she should be doing it, insisting she was above a TV script and it wouldn’t progress her career. Not surprisingly, Kate went ballistic.”

Kate and Sam – who married in May 2003 – announced their split on Monday (15.03.10) but friends claim they have been living apart for several months.

DiCaprio Talks Inception

Posted By Taly on March 17th, 2010

When we talked to Leonardo DiCaprio about his latest film with Martin Scorsese, Shutter Island, we took the chance to ask him about this summer’s Inception, the brain-bending new effort from The Dark Knight‘s Christopher Nolan.

You can hear what he had to say below, but if you’re more a reader than a watcher, here are the high points.

“It is complicated. It’s a complicated story-structure, but it’s sprung from the great filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s mind, and he’s been able to take highly complex jigsaw puzzles in a narrative and put them together like we’ve never seen.”

“This is a plot-structure that’s working on multiple layers simultaneously – and quite literally when I say simultaneously, I do mean multiple narratives simultaneously. So everyone’s going to be in for a treat when they see it, including me.”

Titanic To Be Released In 3-D

Posted By Marcie on March 16th, 2010

The movie Titanic will be re-released in theaters as a 3-D event in 2012, 100 years after the original Titanic sank. The 1997 movie was an instant hit with audiences, critics, and the media alike. The movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, won eleven of the fourteen Oscars that the film was nominated for. The movie solidified DiCaprio’s heartthrob status among teen girls and also made a hit song of the movie’s theme song, “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion.

“Titanic” director James Cameron announced the 3-D movie plans in a recent interview. He said, “We’re targeting spring of 2012 for the release, which is the 100th anniversary of the sailing of the ship.”

“Titanic” was at one time the highest grossing movie, with one billion dollars in sales. Cameron broke his own record with his latest movie, “Avatar”, which made over two billion dollars. Avatar’s wild success in 3-D has inspired several movie re-releases that will be featured in 3-D. In addition to Titanic, the next “Toy Story” and “Shrek” movies will also be in 3-D, and there are rumors that movie executives are mulling over a re-release of the shark tale classic, “Jaws” in 3-D.

Leonardo Strikes a Pose While Bar Hits the Runways in Paris

Posted By Taly on March 14th, 2010

Leonardo DiCaprio popped up in Tokyo today for a photo call in support of Shutter Island. His Scorsese film was a hit in the US despite less-than-stellar reviews, and Leo’s off doing foreign promotion in the hopes that its box office revenues will soar worldwide. Leo sadly skipped out on Sunday’s Oscars, though Bar Refaeli turned out to hit the Vanity Fair afterparty. She didn’t accompany him on his trip overseas since she was off to Paris, where she took a turn on the Louis Vuitton runway alongside Elle Macpherson and Adriana Lima.
