Leo’s women…
The ‘Revolutionary Road’ star has been photographed cuddling up to 23-year-old Russian Sports Illustrated beauty Anne Vyalitsyna on Spanish party island Ibiza. Onlookers claim the 34-year-old actor couldn’t keep his hands off the young model, who seemed thrilled with his attention. Leonardo’s representative refused to confirm if the pair are dating. But what is true is that they have been seen together. The star has been linked to several high-profile women, including Cameron Diaz and Pussycat Dolls singer Ashley Roberts, since he split from supermodel Bar Refaeli earlier this year. He was also overheard asking his friend Guy Ritchie to find him a cute British girl during a recent night out at London nightclub Whisky Mist. But before Guy could answer, Leonardo was swamped by “stunning” women desperate to get to know him. A source said: “Leo was pointing out the girls he fancied to the security guards, who then invited them over. He was having a great time knocking back champagne and having girls swarm over him.”
Nakiska plays ski instructor to stars of movie, ‘Inception’
Where do movie stars learn how to ski? When they’re in Kananaskis Country filming a movie that requires shredding some turns–while wearing backpacks and carrying machine guns on their shoulders, no less–the resort bestowed with the privilege of teaching them their pizzas and french fries is Nakiska.
Canadian actor Ellen Page, along with co-stars Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy and Ken Watanabe, received private on-hill instruction at the resort last week to ski in scenes for the movie Inception, which wraps filming at a spectacular set at Fortress Mountain this week.
The high-profile thriller stars Leonardo DiCaprio and is being directed by Christopher Nolan, who has a reputation for authenticity in his films–he was determined that all the actors would make real turns, instead of relying on stunt people for the snow scenes.
“He wanted all of the actors that were involved here, (Nolan) wanted them to learn to ski,” says Matt Mosteller, a professional ski coach and vice-president of marketing and sales for Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, which owns Nakiska, as well as B.C. resorts Fernie and Kimberley.
“He’s super detail-oriented . . . (Nolan) wants everything right. If you’re portraying it, you’ve got to be able to do it.”
Mosteller and his wife Maureen, also a professional ski coach, were asked by the production company’s location manager to instruct Page, Murphy, Hardy and Watanabe in the sport’s basics so they could perform their scenes with confidence.
“We would ski Homesteader down, depending on their ability,” said Mosteller, of the beginner-to intermediate-level run which meanders down the mountain from the top of the Silver Chair.
Page, 22, had skied a couple times as a kid, but hadn’t been on skis in years.
“She’s a tremendous athlete, and an amazing person to hang with,” says Mosteller.
Irish actor Cillian Murphy, who had a role in The Dark Knight, another Christopher Nolan film, had never been on skis before. He was enthusiastic about the sport, but needed enticement to keep at it, often requesting beer breaks from Mosteller.
Actor Tom Hardy, the next Mad Max, was ripped up and ready to hit the slopes.
“He was the most determined on the fitness side,” says Mosteller. “He wanted to practise all the time.”
And where was Leonardo Di-Caprio during his co-stars’ private lessons? DiCaprio later joined Watanabe, who starred in Clint Eastwood’s Letters from Iwo Jima and Nolan’s Batman Begins, to carve turns on their own.
“They ripped up the slopes and needed very little coaching,” says Mosteller.
Exactly how much of the movie involves high-speed ski chase scenes with automatic weapons will likely remain a mystery until its release next year–Inception is being filmed under a high level of security, and little is known about the sci-fiaction film’s plot. Nolan fans awaiting Inception’s release can look forward to at least one avalanche, as the film crew headed to Fernie Alpine Resort in B.C.’s Kootenays to shoot a snow slide triggered there.
Is he back with Bar?
NEW YORK – Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Rafaeli have sparked reports of rekindling romance after being spotted together in the Bahamas.
The pair put an end to their three-year relationship in June this year over the actor’s reported fear of commitment.
But the duo were said to have raised eyebrows after recently checking into the private resort Baker’s Bay.
“They stayed in their own villa. They were shacked up together all weekend,” the New York Post quoted a source as saying.
A spokesperson for DiCaprio declined to comment and Rafaeli’s rep was unavailable.

Leo’s Entourage
With Leonardo DiCaprio in Alberta filming a movie, here’s a guide for keeping his ever-present crew busy

MARTIN SCORSESE
- You know him as: The director who was robbed of an Oscar for Mean Streets (1973), Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980), Goodfellas (1990), Cape Fear (1991) and Casino (1995) before finally winning one for The Departed (2006), thanks partly to DiCaprio.
- Membership: Seven years.
- Role: Filmmaking master and DiCaprio’s biggest fan. After working with DiCaprio on Gangs of New York (2002), Scorsese has enlisted him in at least three more movies, including the title role in The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt, due out 2011.
- Most likely to: Overshadow DiCaprio’s eventual Oscar win with a Lifetime Achievement Academy Award.
- Party plans: Lock everyone in a movie theatre overnight to watch Oscar winning films from 1973, 1976, 1980, 1990, 1991 and 1995. Then off to Mercato for a family-style Italian feast.
If being famous means being popular, then celebrities should have more friends than they can count.
But judging from the tireless parade of poor judgment and Hollywood scandal, fame can be lonely. A celebrity needs a trusted confidant to protect them from drunken mug shots, rehab stints and career-defining crotch shots.
Leonardo DiCaprio is one such celebrity who loves to have a good time, but appears
ELLEN PAGE
- You know her as: Juno (she’s also Canada’s cutest Hollywood transplant).
- Membership: Newcomer.
- Role: The Underestimated Girl. At 5-foot-1 she may be small, but the 22-year-old Halifax native has proved her mettle already.
- Most likely to: Win an Oscar before DiCaprio.
- Party Plans: Wait until DiCaprio gets drunk and passes out before taking advantage of . . . his hotel suite by ordering room service and Whip It on pay-per-view.
to maintain a certain levelheadedness thanks in large part to his posse of pals, many of whom grew up together in Los Angeles.
DiCaprio is in Calgary this week working on Christopher Nolan’s latest movie Inception, which began filming on Monday.
Although the single superstar will only be in the area for a couple of weeks he rarely gets away without working in a little fun. Here is a guide to Calgary and its surrounding foothills for Leo and his loyal friends.
LUKAS HAAS
- You know him as: The Amish boy who sees too much in Harrison Ford’s 1985 Oscar winner Witness. He was also on the arm of Natalie Portman a few years back. Still can’t place him? Well, he’s been in more movies and TV shows than nearly every member of this entourage combined.
- Membership: An original.
- Role: The Poet. The multi-talented singer-songwriter seduces the ladies with one of about 10 instruments he plays.
- Most likely: To be overlooked for the supporting role that props up DiCaprio’s best actor win.
- Party plans: Torn between the meat-eaters Palomino Smokehouse and The Ship & Anchor for live music, the sometime vegetarian may have to flip a coin before hitting Beat Niq late night.
KEVIN CONNOLLY
- You know him as: Eric (E) Murphy on HBO’s Entourage. But before that he was Kev-o in DiCaprio’s entourage. Ah, the irony.
- Membership: An original.
- Role: The Wingman. He’s a serial dater of celebrity sisters –Hailey Duff, Nikki Hilton– but when he’s not working he’s ready to party any night of the week.
- Most likely: To produce the movie for which DiCaprio wins
his first Oscar.
- Party plans: In lieu of courtside L.A. Lakers seats, Connolly could treat the group to a Calgary Flames game. Then the HBO hottie can lead the boys straight to Cowboys for hooters shooters. (But watch out for the waitresses, gentlemen. Learn from Prince Harry.)
ETHAN SUPLEE
- You know him as: Randy Hickey on My Name is Earl or the scary racist bully in American History X.
- Membership: An original.
- Role: The voice of reason. Married with two kids, this is the guy who gets a consistent paycheque from the well-paid world of serial TV.
- Most likely to: Write the script that earns DiCaprio an Oscar.
- Party plans: After loosing more than 100 pounds a few years back, Suplee is the picture of health. Since the ski slopes are open he can get the boys outfitted with boards, beer on the hill and wrap up the day with an organic feast at Canmore’s Crazy Weed.
DAVID SUZUKI
- You know him as: Leading environmentalist and star of DiCaprio’s The 11th Hour.
- Membership: Newcomer.
- Role: The crusader. Never one to let the party get out of control, Suzuki can keep Leo’s focus on the oilsands.
- Most likely to: Beat out hundreds of eligible Calgary bachelorettes for the attentions of green-heated DiCaprio.
- Party plans: Hit McDonald’s in a gas-guzzling Hummer for a methane-fuelled double cheeseburger before meeting Calgary’s most prominent oil and gas execs for a game of beer pong. Or not.
TOBEY MAGUIRE
- You know him as: Your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.
- Membership: An original.
- Role: The Heart. This is the guy you can turn to when you miss the supermodel with whom you just broken up. He’s the macho equivalent of the girlfriend who holds your hair back while you puke.
- Most likely to: Pass on the role that wins DiCaprio the Oscar.
- Party plans: After a quick stop at the comic bookstore in Kensington to see his face in the geek section, the married father of two will take the boys to cheer on the Stampeders on Sunday horse races before hitting The Coup, one Calgary’s few vegetarian restaurants.
Happy 35th Birthday, Leonardo DiCaprio!
Leonardo DiCaprio turns 35 today and to celebrate the milestone we put together this slideshow of some of Leo’s biggest moments! He’s been in show business for almost 20 years and has grown up so much along the way. From his best friends like Tobey Maguire, Lukas Haas and Kevin Connelly to his bikini-loving model girlfriends like Gisele Bundchen and Bar Refaeli, Leonardo has gone from heartthrob to leading man. He’s still the star of the highest grossing movie of all time, Titanic, but he also makes time for his passions in life, like the environment as well as the most important people, like his mom. Happy B-day, Leo!

“Climate Cover-Up documents one of the most disgusting stories ever hidden about corporate disinformation. What you’ll discover in this book amounts to proof of an intergenerational crime.”
DAVID SUZUKI, Author of The Sacred Balance and Good News for a Change.

“This book explains how the propaganda generated by self-interest groups has purposely created confusion about climate change. It’s an imperative read for a successful future.”

Martin Scorsese Already Recruiting For Frank Sinatra Biopic Soundtrack?
In what seems to be the strongest indicator so far that Martin Scorsese will tackle his Frank Sinatra biopic next, British big-band singer Rick Guard has revealed that he’s already been headhunted for a musical contribution to the project. While the U.K. tabloid reports that Guard has been recruited to record for the soundtrack, it seems plausible the musician could act as a musical stand, but as Sinatra’s voice? Seems doubtful. Who knows what the thinking is there, but obviously an ol’ blue eyes film would likely have others singing in it as well.
Last we heard, a three-way battle between Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney and Johnny Depp was taking place for the title role with each of actors backed by different parties behind the film’s production: the director, the studio and Sinatra’s family.projects like “Silence” and the George Harrison doc will be taking a backseat to the Sinatra biopic (though the Harrison doc is something that can probably be worked on over the years and some team of editors are probably sifting through and collecting footage as we speak). Additionally, Scorsese just had HBO greenlight his series “Boardwalk Empire,” the story of the 1920′s king of Atlantic City, Nucky Thompson, to be played by Steve Buscemi and co-starring the likes of Michael Pitt, Kelly Macdonald and Michael Shannon. Scorsese helmed the pilot to the show, will act as an executive producer and is reportedly hoping to stay creatively involved — but hopefully not enough to eat up much of his 2010 free time. And yes, it is a British tabloid, but it’s such a small story, who would make this up? That is unless Guard is really trying to get himself some free press… (which would be bad form and would blow up in his face if that was the case, we assume he’s not that dumb).
“When I got the email from Scorsese’s people I thought it was a wind up,” the musician tells The Sun. “I was then contacted by American agents looking to represent me and my website has gone ballistic with hits. There’s been more visitors and emails to the site in the last two days than in the last year!”
Development on the Sinatra biopic potentially spells disaster though for Scorsese’s adaptation of “Silence,” which was originally set to star Daniel Day-Lewis and Benicio Del Toro as two Jesuit priests in the 17th century subjected to violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to find their mentor and spread the word of Christianity. As we previously noted, “Silence” was always going to be a hard sell especially in today’s day and age of sequels and remakes. But with a seemingly commercial effort like “Shutter Island” having already been shuffled out of this year’s award-season slate into 2010, it’s probably fair and safe to assume that we might have to wait a few years for “Silence.” Bit of a shame as rumors had it that Scorsese took on ‘Island,’ specifically to appease his producer folks as a means to finally tackle the Jesuit priest film which has apparently been a pet-project of his for years that he’s wanted to tackle.
For now it seems as though
IS LEONARDO DICAPRIO THE THIRD MAN?
File this one under rumor, but it’s a pretty solid rumor or I wouldn’t be running it. This is still early enough in the game that it could all fall apart, but it’s also late enough in the game that it could be officially announced in a week or two. Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire might be starring in a remake of the classic Carol Reed film The Third Man, which is being written by Eastern Promises screenwriter Steven Knight. The package comes from Canal Plus and it’s going out for bidding, and the bidding is likely to be fierce. That’s a hell of a line-up, after all. And it’s before they have a director in place. The big question is who plays what? Would DiCaprio take on the lead role of Holly Martins, the pulp author who comes to post-WWII Vienna for the funeral of his friend Harry Lime, or would he take on Harry Lime himself, a shadowy figure immortalized by Orson Welles? My money’s on Leo stepping into Welles’ shoes and with Maguire playing Holly. The next big question is what’s the setting? Would it be set in modern day Baghdad? Or would Knight find another setting in which to set up Harry Lime’s racket (do it scifi!)? And then there’s another big question – do you keep Harry Lime’s famous ferris wheel monologue, one of the greatest in cinema history? You sort of have to… but you also don’t want to be the guys who redo something perfect. Then again, with that line of thinking nobody would be remaking The Third Man. If you’re unfamiliar with the film I recommend picking up the Criterion Blu-Ray, which you can buy through CHUD by clicking here.
